This is an antique glass globe that was hung above an oil lamp/candle.
The ring at the top was used to hang the glass from a metal hook on a fixture or to securely attach it to a chain.
The bulbous top served to collect the heat and fumes from the flame, while the wide bottom fit over the burner to protect the flame from drafts. The glass is hand-blown and dates from 1800-1850.
Very decorative to hang somewhere.
The chain with glass spheres is not included in the price.
Size: 23 cm
