This is an antique glass bell jar that was hung over an oil lamp/candle.
The brass rim with a ring at the top was used to hang the glass from a metal hook on a fixture or to securely attach it to a chain.
The bulging part at the top was designed to collect the heat and smoke from the flame, while the wide bottom covered the burner to protect the flame from drafts.
The glass is hand-blown and dates from 1800-1850.
Very decorative to hang somewhere.
The chain with glass spheres is not included in the price. However, it is an original hanging system for this type of bell jar.
Size: 17 cm
Diameter bottom: 12 cm
