This is an antique glass bell jar that was hung over an oil lamp/candle.
The ring at the top was used to hang the glass from a metal hook on a fixture or to securely attach it to a chain.
The convex belly at the top served to collect the heat and fumes from the flame, while the wide bottom covered the burner to protect the flame from drafts. The glass is hand-blown and dates from 1800-1850.
Very decorative to hang somewhere.
The chain with glass beads is not included in the price.
Size: 17 cm
Diameter bottom: 12 cm
