This is an antique glass shade that was hung over an oil lamp/candle.
The ring at the top was used to hang the glass from a metal hook of a fixture or to securely attach it to a chain.
The bulbous top section served to collect the heat and fumes from the flame, while the wide bottom part covered the burner to protect the flame from drafts.
The glass is hand-blown and dates from 1800-1850.
The eyelet of this shade was once repaired. This is also visible in one of the product photos.
