Wrong choices

I've often been told, "You should go to Bamberg in Germany, there's such a lovely antique market!"
And so it happened that we went on a shopping trip to Bamberg. First, we booked a hotel and then a B&B for the weekend so we could also enjoy the surrounding area.
That morning we make sure we are at the antique market on time.
What a beautiful city Bamberg is! The antique market is in the city center.
I am very curious about the antiques, I have a high regard for them.
But oh, what a disappointment.
I expected a lot of high-quality antiques, but I see a lot of mediocre stuff. There are certainly some beautiful items, but they're unaffordable, far above the prices I'm willing to pay. And also far above the prices I'm willing to ask.
I see a lot of 'expired' antiques; things that are no longer bought these days, aren't worth much anymore, dead stock.
And what I also see a lot is "fake antiques." That's not a problem in itself, but they're being offered as genuine antiques and are being asked for way over the asking price.
Especially many Christmas items, which are definitely not old, are being offered for high prices. I'm shocked.
And as I walk through the streets, my heart sinks. It's very busy, but I see few people walking around with purchases.
This is why we came all the way to Bamberg.
To conclude, we'll enjoy a delicious glass of wine on a bridge near a beautiful building. It's lovely outside, as the weather is wonderful.
With a few small 'trinkets' and one illusion poorer we return to the car.
After a few pleasant nights in a hotel, we are now heading towards the Austrian border. There we have booked a B&B with a view of the foothills of the Alps.
The owner opens the door and lets us look around the apartment. We enter a basement where a motorcycle is parked. It smells strongly of fuel, and even after climbing a flight of stairs, it's still just as strong.
We enter the kitchen, and he opens the refrigerator, which we're allowed to use. It's full of his own open food and drinks. The dishwasher is also half full of his own dirty dishes.
The trash bins are also not  Empty. There's cat food and a litter box in the kitchen. Somewhere, cats are roaming around and can get everywhere in the house.
We climb another flight of stairs to the bathroom. There's a gray pile of towels and all sorts of his things. So, we'll be sharing the bathroom. I'm starting to get a headache.
Up the next flight of stairs and there’s a whole fitness room.
In a corner there is a table with two chairs where we can sit and if we go up another flight of stairs we end up in an open mini attic room where it doesn't exactly smell fresh and the bedding is so gray that I feel like crying rather than laughing.
When he's gone I decide I really don't want to stay here.
Once there, we booked a hotel where we had a wonderful overnight stay.
What wrong choices we had made.
Bad luck
Before we go home, we'll enjoy it for a few more days.

And on Wednesday, October 8th at 10.00 am there will be a small Christmas website update on my website www.vanmijenco.nl
